after breakfast, we visited the Heritage and Aerospace Museum.
We went there because there was extra time to visit other places before heading to Dell headquarters.
The museum housed real aircrafts.
These include fighter planes, trainer planes, helicopters and even rockets.
we took many photographs.
outside the museum building, there were planes, helicopters, radar and rocket parts displayed
The planes were mostly military planes, both old and rather recent unmanned planes.
The helicopters were utilitarian types like the 'Sea King', which were used for various operations.
The radar was just a rotating radar dish, commonly used in military camps, painted red and white.
Even more interesting was the rocket part displayed at a small part of the compound.
It was a heat shield for a satellite.
A heat shield is something used to protect the satellite from heat produced.
from the friction between the air and the satellite when exiting the earth's atmosphere.
Finally, it was time to head off to the Dell headquaters.
Though no cameras were allowed, we had a good experience in the building.
The speaker gave us an introduction of what Dell does
and the critical factors that made Dell a successful multi-billion company.
Dell actually has a range of products that could be specifically tailored to customers' demands
This is achieved by manufacturing the product only when the customers have ordered the product.
By doing it this way, they also get rid of the 'middlemen' to sell their products, thus saving much of the cost.
This also reduces the cost needed for various costs and ultimately saving both the custommer's and their money.
Besides this saving on cost, there are many other benefits achieved through this way.
The critical factors of Dell's success were selecting a location that provides:
A stable infrastructure, government support, good surroundings, scalability and communication.
after a long talk, we headed for lunch at Domino's Pizza.
We enjoyed our surprise lunch with soft drinks.
yum.
we then headed for the International Tech Park owned and managed by Singapore's Ministry of Industry and Trade. the moment we stepped into the park, we immediately felt a Singapore "air" as the whole place had a typical Singapore feel with names of buildings such as Discoverer, Innovator and Navigator.
we watched a short clip about the park.
it is a very well-planned place with many facilities.
although Singapore is a very small country, we felt very proud that our very own Singaporeans are able to craft, create and build up an important industry outside Singapore.
we went back that night very much enriched.
all of us felt very proud of our own country :D
